Alan Knowles established FORM-AK in 1992. Previously to this Alan Knowles had 20 years experience working with a major multinational agrochemical company.

Alan Knowles has written many technical papers and techno-commercial reports for publishers in UK, Europe, USA and China (list of publications is available). Alan Knowles is the editor of a technical book on agrochemical products entitled "Chemistry and Technology of Agrochemical Formulations", published in 1998 by Kluwer Academic Publishers, The Netherlands. He is also the author of an extensive techno-commercial report entitled "Trends in Pesticide Formulations", published by Agrow Reports, PJB Publications, UK in 2001.

From 1993 to 1999 Alan Knowles was Chief Technical Adviser to the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) for the Pesticide Formulation Development Project in China. This involved setting up new laboratory, pilot production and training facilities in Nantong City, China, (a separate brochure on the United Nations Nantong Pesticide Formulation Development Centre is available). Other agrochemical projects for United Nations organisations have been carried out in India, South Korea and Ethiopia.
